With this project I altered an existing beech office door to a stable door with a fold-down shelf on the rear.

Second time we have used Michael and delighted (again) with the outcome. Smaller project boxing in and changing some doors but all done with precision and to a high quality.

Michael and team cladded our steel stair case in oak. 100% happy with the finished job and process getting there. Michael communicated all the way through the project and delivered what he promised. Would highly recommend.

Michael has just finished 2 projects for us. Very impressed with speed of comms, quote, lead in and time on site. Quality of work met the brief fully. 1 project demanded quality joinery of piecing in and repairing window and door frames. The other was more basic but Michael took both in his stride. Recommended without a doubt

Micheal and his team recently installed some doors at my home including a pocket door, and I couldn't be happier with the results. The work was carried out with an exceptional level of professionalism and attention to detail. Communication was excellent, and the work was completed on time and the house was left clean and tidy. I've used Michael Black Carpentry for several years, and they’ve always delivered exceptional work. Most recently, they built a custom-designed summer house with a seating area, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. The craftsmanship is outstanding, with every detail carefully thought out and beautifully executed. Michael and his team are always professional, reliable, and kept me informed throughout the project, ensuring everything was exactly as I envisioned. If you're looking for a skilled and trustworthy carpenter who takes pride in their work, I highly recommend them Thank you for another fantastic job!

I've used Michael for various jobs over the past 10 years. He has never let me down - in terms of quality of work, attention to detail, courtesy and fairness in pricing. Just recently he put in a new internal door and frame for me. Excellent work as usual ... and I have recommended him to other friends and will continue to do so.

Michael has done a range of jobs for us over the last year. Most recently he overhauled our wardrobes, part of which meant making new bespoke doors with beading and insetting some paper we’d picked up. Really tidy work, and always a reliable friendly service.

I approached Michael with 5 rooms to have flooring fitted, he gave his professional opinion and the best advice on which types of flooring he recommended. He was so helpful and always available to talk. Originally he was quite booked up but when we told him we were away on holiday he utilised that time as we figured it would tricky to work with the kids about! Can't thank him enough, it's perfect!

If you’re looking for a carpenter in Welwyn Garden City or the surrounding areas, I’ve been in the building and construction industry for more than 40 years. I initially qualified with distinction in carpentry and joinery, and later went on to found BBP, a successful local building firm, which I ran in partnership with my brother, Jaimie, for 25 years.

Today, I focus my efforts on carpentry, maintenance and small building works, including kitchen and bathroom refits and other alterations. I’m now pleased to be joined by my son, James Black, who is continuing the family tradition and working alongside me on projects. Together, we combine decades of experience with a fresh approach and attention to detail.

While still providing trusted building services, I’ve also reached the point in my life where it’s time to revisit my original passion. In the very near future, you will be able to purchase my bespoke, handcrafted joinery pieces through this site and other online channels.
